Do you need a knee replacement? Do it while you have private insurance and you are under age sixty-five. At sixty-five you are forced to join Social Security. Yes, forced to join. And being on Social Security may not be in your knee's best interest -- health-wise.
A knee replacement costs about 25,000. Specialist MD's that my friend went to do not take government money. So for a knee replacement she had to to have private insurance AND ahead of time pay the difference between the doctor's charge and what private insurance pays.
My friend got both her knees replaced BEFORE she turned age sixty-five. Paid for largely by private insurance and partly out of pocket. At sixty five -- if retired -- my friend could not get knee replacements from the doctor of her choice. And all the doctors she checked with do not take government money to do knee replacements.
